Rihanna’s make-up masterclass

Rihanna’s hairstylist knew he had to go sleek for an event when he saw the Chopard jewels she was going to wear.

The Bajan singer is known for her striking looks and often pairs bold make-up with daring fashion statements.

For the Diamond Ball in Beverly Hills earlier this month, Rihanna rocked grown-up glamour in a silky maroon Zac Posen dress and Chopard jewels. Her hair was worn in a slick ponytail and her lips sported a deep berry colour.

“It's a dream [working with Rihanna] because she's fearless - she'll wear whatever. And we've worked together for years, so we finish each other's sentences,” Rihanna’s make-up artist Mylah Morales told People.

“The inspiration [for the Diamond Ball] was ‘modern Audrey Hepburn’. Rihanna wanted to go dark, so we did burgundy, and I put a glittery lipstick over it to make it pop. [Her lips] looked bejewelled!”

Super stylist Yusef Williams was the man behind her sleek hair. In the past, Rihanna has had a Mohawk, bleached blonde locks and a shaved undercut. However, a ponytail was the perfect way to finish off her glamorous look at this event.

“When we saw the Chopard choker come out of the case, we knew we had to pull her hair back. That sealed the deal,” Yusef revealed.

“Believe it or not, ponytails are the hardest thing to do because you want it perfect. It probably took 30 minutes. And we added grey pieces to punk it up a bit. She didn't say anything [when she saw it]. You know you've nailed it when she stares at you, shakes her head and leaves the room. We call it, ‘Oh! She dropped the mic!’”
