Rosamund Pike: I like risky fashion
Rosamund Pike would rather pick a red carpet outfit that will cause a "debate" than something safe.
The British actress prefers to experiment with her attire rather than be lauded for her classic sartorial picks.
Rosamund gets anxious about what fashion experts will say about her red carpet looks though.
"You’re always thinking, ‘Am I going to get slaughtered by the critics?'" she told Grazia Online. "I want to give something for people to debate over. I’d rather cause a storm than people just say it’s OK."
Rosamund went on to describe some of her favourite red carpet choices in the interview and named the Dior dress she wore to the Vanity Fair Oscars party earlier this year as a gown she was instantly wowed by. It featured a black sleeveless top and floral max skirt, which was iridescent pink.
The 34-year-old star insists she wasn't put off by the fact that another star had worn the dress prior to her.
"Then I wasn’t in any way connected to the Oscars because I wasn’t in a film that was nominated so I didn’t want to wear anything that looked like I was trying to steal anyone else’s show," she said.
"You always have to keep track of who’s wearing what and an actress who I didn’t know had already worn it in Spain. But I just thought, 'I don’t care, I just want to wear this so much!' Funnily enough, it was someone seeing me in this outfit that made them think of me for one of the films I’ve just done. You don’t know why you pick something but for some reason, for some director, this look embodied their character. There is this symbiosis."
Rosamund also gushed about the canary yellow floor-sweeping Alexander McQueen dress she wore to the Jack Reacher premiere.
"Oh, this one’s amazing!" she smiled. "I had a completely different dress lined up but on the morning, the McQueen team came to my house with this and I fell in love with it. I’d seen it at the show but I didn’t think we were going to get it. It was January in London and this dress was just such a big splash of colour.
"I do dress for myself and I picture the mood of the fans of the film. If it’s a film premiere, I think about what they might like to see, especially if they’ve been waiting for ages. There are not many opportunities to wear something like that."
