Ruth Negga: 'Beautiful jewellery is beguiling'
If Ruth Negga ever designed jewellery she'd use emeralds and rubies to create a head piece.
Ruth Negga is beguiled by the beauty of jewellery.
The Oscar-nominated actress wowed on the red carpet during the recent awards season, with both her dress and accessory choices catching the eyes of the world’s press.
For the Academy Awards in February (17), Ruth sparkled in rubies, donning a crown, a statement ring and earrings which all featured the precious stone, designed by Irene Neuwirth and mining company Gemfields using responsibly sourced Mozambican rubies.
“I’ve always admired jewellery and (been) beguiled by its beauty,” Ruth told America’s Vogue.
To help her get red carpet ready Ruth has the help of top stylist Karla Welch. The fashion expert recently landed the top spot on The Hollywood Reporter’s The 25 Most Powerful Stylists in Hollywood list, and she also counts Sarah Paulson, America Ferrera, Busy Philipps, Karlie Kloss, Lorde, Justin Bieber and Pink among her famous clientele.
“Karla Welch. Two words. She has a psychic ability to understand the artist she works with,” Ruth praised.
To celebrate her love of all things sparkly, Ruth attended Tiffany & Co.’s recent Blue Book Gala in New York.
When asked what jewellery she’d design if she ever had the chance, Ruth revealed she’d like to create colourful pieces for herself.
“It would involve emeralds, rubies, and it would definitely be a head piece,” the 35-year-old shared. “Something like Billie Holiday, (who) wore a flower in her hair.”
Ruth wore a leopard print Gucci dress to the event, which featured a peplum waist and white collar detail, and described it as her “bit of (late American star) Eartha Kitt”.
