Sarah Jessica Parker creating shoes
Sarah Jessica Parker is set to launch her debut footwear line next year.
The actress is best known for playing Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, a character who had a penchant for expensive and beautiful footwear.
Sarah has announced that 15 years after the series debuted on the HBO channel, she is now launching SJP, a line of shoes, bags and “a few trenches”.
“In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,” she told US Vogue. “It’s sort of soup to nuts. You put on a shoe and you put on a coat and you wear a bag and, on the outside, when you’re walking down the street, they really can tell the same story about yourself.”
Sarah is teaming up with George Malkemus, the long time CEO at Manolo Blahnik, for the line.
The goal is to offer something different to what is available currently on the market.
Her inspiration is the great old-school labels of the past such as Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon.
“We’re putting new colours together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet,” she continued. “And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the '70s into the '80s, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.”
Unlike her character Carrie, who nearly went bankrupt through her love of expensive heels, her line will be affordable. The shoes will range from around $200 to $300, and bags will likely sell for under $700.
“Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes,” she smiled, “and by default I learned an enormous amount. It’s hard to, no pun intended, walk away from that.”
The SJP line will be available exclusively at Nordstrom stores from early next year.
