Schilling: I have more to offer than beauty
Taylor Schilling feels liberated on the set of Orange Is the New Black.
The 29-year-old actress plays Piper Chapman in the hit Netflix show Orange Is the New Black. Set in a women's federal prison means Taylor isn't required to look her glamorous best and this is something that as an actress, she really appreciates.
"I don’t feel bound by my face or my body. I don’t feel like that’s the biggest gift I have to offer the world," she told Allure magazine. "I feel like there are more parts of me to offer than that. It’s totally liberating. There’s freedom in not having to make it about how my jeans fit or what my boobs look like in a top. All I have to do now is play.”
As well as appearing in the hit series, Taylor has had had success on the big screen in movies including The Lucky One with Zac Efron and Argo with Ben Affleck. But having such success and starring alongside such handsome co-stars is not something Taylor could have foreseen for herself when she was growing up. That's because Taylor suffered from ugly duck syndrome and didn't blossom until she was older.
"It was tough at home, and it was tough at school…. And my experience was painful, so painful," she recalled. "There was a period of time I had very short hair, and I had glasses, and I was very tall for my age.”
But now Taylor is one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood and thanks to her role in Orange Is the New Black, which features lesbian love scenes, she is starting to be seen as a bisexual icon, something she laughs of.
"Oh God, I don't think so at all. I've never heard myself being called that," she told British newspaper The Metro.
