Shailene relished haircut

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley loves her new pixie crop and accessories a lot more now her hair is short.

The American actress debuted her pixie crop at the Elle Women in Hollywood gala earlier this week, where she wore a quirky Calvin Klein Collection dress from their Spring/Summer 14 collection.

Shailene couldn't contain how happy she was with the dramatic chop and admitted it had been a long time coming.

"I love it. It's so easy, man," she told People. "I've always wanted to cut my hair... so it's exciting to be able to just be free and chop it off."

The 21-year-old star used to have long, wavy locks, which she would often wear down for special occasions. Now she doesn't have to style her hair, Shailene has turned her attention to other accessories.

"I wear so many more scarves!" she added. "Having short hair reveals to you why it's so important to cover your neck up, because it gets cold! It's incredible. Not having hair, the lack of hair, even the weight on your head, reveals so much about your body's chemistry I cannot even tell you."

Earlier this year she had her hair cut shorter for her role as Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars. She donated her locks to a charity called Children With Hair Loss.

Shailene posted a photo from the hair salon on Twitter as she sat in the chair.

"...and so it begins... #itgrowsback #hairforhazel (sic)" she wrote.
