Shakira talks post baby Milan body - 'Don't suffer to stay fit'

Shakira doesn't think anyone should do exercise they don't enjoy.

The 37-year-old singer gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Gerard Piqué, baby boy Milan, in January last year. She seems to have toned up in record time, but the new mom insists her new shape took some getting used to.

"It was a shock, the first time I looked in the mirror after giving birth," she admitted to the German edition of Women's Health. "You wonder whether it's even possible to look the way you did before."

The star realised she didn't enjoy hitting the gym, so instead lost weight by playing basketball and practising Zumba. She doesn't believe in people doing things they don't enjoy purely to look good.

"You shouldn't suffer in order to stay fit - exercise should be fun," she smiled.

She also added why she likes the aforementioned sports.

"With activities like that, you have to concentrate so much that you don't realise how hard you're working," she said.

"If you don't move, you feel rubbish. That's why it's so important to stay on the go. Being fit makes your self-confidence stronger. And being confident is always sexy."

In Shakira's industry, looking good has always been a priority. But now that she has a family, she's more concerned with staying healthy for her 15-month-old son and Gerard, 27.

"I have a child and a husband I want to be there for," she explained.
