Swimwear can make or break your summer holiday wardrobe and the good news is this year sees the return of the one-piece. Swimsuits are sexy, having shirked off their demure cover-up image of the past.

From fierce animal prints to beautiful block colours and retro detailing, such as halter necks and a flirtatious bow added just for good measure, they are now more yummy than mumsy.

Stylish swimwear is constructed from high-tech modern fabrics which gives support in all the right places, with a flattering cut taking the fear out of your beach debut.

Designers have now cottoned on to the fact that bikinis, like women, come in all shapes in sizes.

So, you can choose from a Marilyn Monroe-style Fifties pin-up two-piece or a structured goddess bikini - rather than the unflattering itsy-bitsy, barely-three-string varieties of the past.

Everywhere from supermarket to high street chains to posh stores have got a gorgeous selection of costumes, so channel your inner beach babe with ease.

Primark, New Look and F&F have bikinis from £10 or less, with certain stores selling tops and bottoms separately so you can mix up colours and styles to create your very own bespoke bikini and forget about excess baggage charges.

Kaftans are perfect for channelling the hip Seventies vibe, with tie-dye and fringing featuring on many of these clever cover-ups which take you from beach to bar with ease.

Cute denim shorts or skirts make great beach attire, with either frayed cut-offs for a laid-back surfer look, or you could go all girly with feminine lace trims. Other beach bag essentials are over-sized sunnies in tortoiseshell, high-factor sun protection and a pair of on-trend sandals which can cope with the beach terrain.

Let the sun-worshipping commence.
