Sky Ferreira: Slimane is rock 'n' roll

Sky Ferreira has praised Saint Laurent frontman Hedi Slimane for making clothes with "rock and roll in mind".

The Californian songstress has been tapped by Hedi as the face of his Saint Laurent pre-fall 13 collection.

Sky has collaborated with the fashion house's creative director on images for one of her EP covers, as well as the upcoming clothing campaign.

The 20-year-old, who met Hedi in a chance encounter, gushed about his talents in fashion.

"I'm super-excited [to be the face of Saint Laurent]. We [Hedi and I] just met on the street," she explained to the UK edition of Marie Claire magazine.

"Hedi is so gentle. He's anything but intimidating. He designs with rock and roll in mind. I like his clothes because you can wear them anytime - which you should be able to do if you spend all that money."

The blonde star is nonchalant about her fabulous life. She was lucky enough to have Michael Jackson as her unofficial singing tutor when she was a child because her grandmother was his hairdresser.

"It was kind of cool," she shrugged.

Hedi is a fan of blurring the lines between model and musician and Sky's Venice Beach-cool style is the perfect match for his pre-fall collection, which has as much to do with music as it does with fashion.

Hedi clearly believes the hype growing around Sky, selecting the young star to front the look-book pictures for his new collection himself.

In the shots, Sky poses with her razor-sharp cheekbones accentuated by a messed-up bleached blonde hair style and a rockstar red lip.

In some of the images revealed in the magazine's feature it is clear to see why Sky's LA grunge aesthetic is a perfect fit for Hedi's rock ‘n’ roll-inspired look.

Sky is an accomplished and elegant singer/songwriter, but her critical acclaim wasn't built overnight.

"[I was signed aged 15 to be a] Britney-meets-Lolita character," she explained.

Sky has also starred in ad campaigns for Calvin Klein's CK One fragrance and Adidas Originals, further cementing her burgeoning fashion darling status.
