Sofía Vergara inspires copycat brides

Designer Zuhair Murad's phone has been ringing off the hook since Sofía Vergara wore one of his wedding dresses.

Sofía Vergara's Zuhair Murad wedding dress has sparked countless copycat requests.

The Modern Family star has worn the designer's creations on many occasions, so it's no surprise she relied on him for the most special gown of her life. She walked down the aisle to meet now-husband Joe Manganiello in a beautiful white dress that required a team of over 30 people and more than 1,000 hours' work.

The Colombian actress has a huge social media presence and shared her big day on Sunday (22Nov15) with all her Instagram followers. Zuhair can't quite believe what an effect it's had, and business is booming.

"With social media now, we are immediately in touch," the designer marvelled to WWD. "Sofía posted a big bouquet of flowers on Instagram once she received the dress.

"You can’t know the number of calls and emails we’re getting from clients and women who want to get married wearing something similar. We’re hearing from people all over the world. This is really huge."

While many designers would need to meet the bride-to-be in person, Zuhair felt comfortable enough to rely on technology and communication between his team and Sofía's.

“Every day we spent a lot of time on the phone or Skype," he explained. "She trusts my instincts, taste and my suggestions. And I know her figure and her taste.”

The main requirements were that the gown should sit comfortably and allow Sofía the freedom to dance and have fun. Zuhair decided to keep things quite classic, opting for a strapless design with fitted bodice and full skirt. Luckily, Sofía was completely blown away by the end product.

"She loved the design, the embroidery on the bodice, the sketches and the mermaid shape," he smiled. "You don’t see the tone-on-tone-white until you see the dress and touch it. Everything was done perfectly.”
