Taraji P. Henson avoids makeup meltdown at BET Awards

Taraji P. Henson's celebrity makeup artist provides tips on how to keep makeup in place over the sweltering summer.

Actress Taraji P. Henson looked cool and collected in the California heatwave at the BET Awards thanks to her expert makeup artist.

The stunning Empire star showed up to the event in Los Angeles on Sunday (26Jun16) looking flawless as usual in a black bodysuit and sheer embellished skirt by Steven Khalil, but her face paint was in real danger of becoming a mess due to the city's record-breaking heat. She managed to avoid a complete makeup meltdown on the red carpet thanks in part to cosmetics artist Ashunta Sheriff, who offered up a simple approach to ensure her client's look would be immune to the sweltering temperature.

“I wanted to go for an understated, soft and clean look on Taraji,” Sheriff tells Us Weekly. “It was a hot day and the look was effortless and easy to create.”

Sheriff used Black Opal brand products to create Henson's look for the night, including the company's True Color Perfecting Primer, True Color Stick Foundation SPF15 in Rich Caramel, Flawless Perfecting Concealer and Invisible Oil Blocking Pressed Powder. To combat the summer heat, the makeup artist first applied dabs of the True Color Perfect Primer to the Person of Interest star's face with a wedge, creating a binding layer that would keep all of the rest of the pieces in place throughout the three-hour ceremony. She then used a little bit of foundation and concealer just under Henson's eyes and brow bone, completing the look with the Oil Blocking Pressed Powder to prevent shine.

Henson sported a winged cat eye on her lids, which Sheriff created with Luxe Creme Liner in Onyx, Black Opal Color Splurge Eye Stain Matte in Bordeaux Bliss and Black Opal Precision Eye Definer in Coffee Bean, wrapping up the actress' face paint with just a few swathes of mauve lipstick.

Each product Sheriff used on Henson ranges in price from $5.25 to $14.95, so anyone who wants to replicate the star's look will not have to break the bank to achieve similar results.
