(Cover) - EN Star Style - Actress Taraji P. Henson has given up buying clothes at high street store T.J. Maxx.
The 45-year-old has been working since the late 90s, but her turn as Cookie Lyon in Empire has really propelled her to superstardom.
Stepping out at last night's Emmys (20Sep15), Taraji stunned in a black custom Alexander Wang gown. The look was a million miles away from the star's former low key wardrobe.
"[I can no longer shop at T.J. Maxx.] I’d have to go at a weird hour and dress like the Unabomber,” she laughed to Us Weekly.
With her sleek bobbed hair and glamorous make-up, Taraji also looked nothing like her screen alter ego Cookie.
Empire is based around a hip hop and entertainment company called Empire Entertainment, and the drama surrounding the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company.
The fictional character of Cookie rocks a much more over the top style, full of furs, glitter and bright lipstick. Fans often confuse the two, but Taraji is always quick to point out their differences.
"They will call me Cookie, and I’m like, 'That’s not my name!' I’m not her - I’m not a fur girl. I’m a PETA girl. And I think selling drugs is a horrible thing... I’m not trying to go to prison!" she giggled.
On the subject of Cookie's clothes, Taraji reveals the looks are about to get a glam new makeover.
"She was in jail for 17 years and came out behind the curveball of fashion. But in the second season, we’re getting so much love from fashion houses. Moschino, Balmain, Chanel... You name it, we got it - and Cookie wears it" she smiled.
Empire season two starts from 23 September (15) on Fox.
