Taylor Momsen has evolved her style and no longer wears "corsets and stripper heels".

The former Gossip Girls actress is also the frontwoman for alternative metal band The Pretty Reckless and says she previously used clothes to help her express the confusion surrounding her sexuality.

But the 20-year-old has toned down her revealing outfits and says her style choices were just a form of artistic expression.

"In the beginning it was me in corsets and stripper heels and all that - I was a kid, everyone thought it was so shocking because I was young and you have to be older to wear that stuff,' she explained to British newspaper Metro.

"I was a kid confused about sexuality and all of that and expressing that confusion in all of it. I think all teenagers express themselves in that way, I was just being very overt about it. Everyone was like, 'Woah, she's naked,' but everything I do has an artistic purpose behind it from clothing to my new record cover."

The blonde singer has concentrated all her attention on music since Gossip Girl finished in 2012.

Despite a sometimes negative portrayal in the media, Taylor doesn't let bad press get her down.

"I don't set out to shock - I've definitely matured and evolved. I'm just a person, I make art. My sexuality is there for a reason it's not just about lewdness.

"I don't care at all, I really don't give a sh*t, everyone's entitled to their opinion. The way the media portrays me is pretty inaccurate. I'm really chill and just a songwriter [but] if people are saying bad things about you just close the computer and it no longer exists," she said defiantly.
