Thandie Newton wears Armani stage garb
Thandie Newton will wear Giorgio Armani costumes for her theatre role in Death and the Maiden.
The Italian designer has turned costume creator for the West End play about politics and moral ambiguity, which opens tonight.
In the lead role of Paulina, a former political prisoner, Hollywood beauty Thandie will wear a black shift dress and black leather court shoes.
Paulina's husband Gerardo, played by Tom Goodman-Hill will wear an Armani suit with a blue shirt and loafers. He will also wear an Armani tuxedo for the role, according to British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.
This is not the first time that Giorgio has helped create a character through costume. The designer famously produced Richard Gere's wardrobe in the 1980 movie American Gigolo.
He has also designed costumes for other West End plays including Richard II starring Kevin Spacey, Don Juan of Soho starring Rhys Ifans, Swimming with Sharks starring Christian Slater and Rain Man with Josh Hartnett.
Giorgio is not the only designer getting in on the theatre act. Stefano Pilati, the designer for Yves Saint Laurent, created costumes for Kristin Scott Thomas and her co-stars in Harold Pinter's Betrayal earlier this year.
