The Good Wife costume designer Daniel Lawson has recalled his favourite outfits on actress Julianna Margulies.

Julianna Margulies ended up resenting a red Lanvin dress after wearing it eight days in a row for The Good Wife.

The popular TV show comes to an end in the U.S. on Sunday (08May16), after seven successful seasons. Celebrating the style of its main character, Julianna's Alicia Florrick, costume designer Daniel Lawson discussed some of his favourite looks with Fashionista.com.

First up was a bold dress worn in season four, Episode 18, when Alicia was attending a prestigious event.

"We only did evening gowns two or three times on show, so this pink and red silk satin Lanvin evening gown really stood out in my mind," Daniel recalled. "I remember when we were deciding between it and an orangish tone Zac Posen gown, Julianna said, 'You know, I feel more important and stately in the Lanvin,' and I thought, 'Oh, that speaks volumes.'

"She said it was really comfortable, I remember, and by the eighth day in a row that she had to wear it, she was like, 'Yeah, I really hate this gown now.' (laughs) But she really loved it and it was such a beautiful, beautiful look on her."

Julianna wore an array of stylish ensembles throughout the run, from tailored, chic suits for her work as a lawyer, to Jackie Kennedy-inspired pieces for her role as a politician's wife opposite Chris Noth's Peter Florrick.

Out of all the pieces though, Daniel will always hold a soft spot for the actress' first ever outfit on the programme; a black pencil skirt with a patterned scarf and black suit jacket.

"This is just totally, completely 100 per cent sentimental, but I still think about - it makes me get teary - the very, very first outfit I ever did for her on the show and it was really simple," the Emmy-nominee reminisced. "It was Arnold S. Levine for Tahari, so it was lower end and it had this black and white zebra scarf that came with it and with this interesting gold and black closure on the jacket...

"I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that suit. I know that Julianna felt like it really placed her. Like it rooted Alicia and that was our springboard for our whole rest of the series with that suit."
