To the pointe: Add a touch of ballet flair to your look

The ballerina trend will be a key look at Belfast Fashionweek

By Maureen Coleman

With the evenings getting brighter, it's time to start thinking about updating our wardrobes for spring/summer. This season sees an explosion of bold colours, multiple textures and simple shapes, and where better to be inspired than at West Coast Cooler Fashionweek, which returns to Bruce Street in Belfast this week.

Style queens (and kings) can expect to see the very best of Northern Ireland's fashion on the catwalk, with another jam-packed schedule of shows and events.

Having its fashion moment on the catwalk right now is the stunning ballerina trend.

Showcased by international designers like Valentino and Giorgio Armani, the long tutu skirts and fluttery tulle have inspired many high street designs from brands such as Coast at Debenhams and Marks & Spencer.

These feminine silhouettes and tulle dresses evoke the dreamy look of a prima ballerina.

They are classic red carpet shapes and are versatile enough to suit both a trendy teen and an elegant woman of more mature years.

To deliver a glammed-up twist that is right en pointe, try swapping the ballet shoe for heels or toughen up the look with gladiator sandals and a stylish biker jacket.

Belfast Fashionweek runs from this Thursday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22. The show schedule is available online at www.belfastfashionweek.com. Tickets are priced at £20 or £25 for FROW (front row) and are available by calling, tel: 028 9024 6609
