Tom Hardy discusses 'hot' costume

Tom Hardy's The Dark Knight Rises costume gave him a taste of what it's like for soldiers in Afghanistan.

The actor plays villainous Bane in the hotly-anticipated Christopher Nolan film. Tom dons a mask and a restrictive outfit for the role, and has explained how he felt when wearing it. "Hot. It's very, very, very hot. Yeah. We're all getting very hot," he told Collider. "You think about the lads that are out in Afghanistan and Baghdad, and you think about the kit they have to wear, well then it's actually not that bad, is it? But it is hot.

"It's hard to breathe."

Tom felt totally immersed in his character when he first tried on his costume. The 34-year-old star has joked that he's gained more respect for Darth Vader since donning the restrictive attire.

"You just put it on, you know? And then it's on, and it's hard to breathe. I can't hear anyone, and no one can see me speak. So there you go. And the magic begins," he laughed, before adding: "I grew up with it, the original Star Wars. And Darth Vader is really cool, isn't he? Really cool."

Tom famously gained 30 pounds of muscle for the coveted film role.

The Dark Knight Rises also stars Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway.
