Tyra Banks' new style inspired by Creed star
Tyra Banks adopts and easy and manageable hairstyle as she juggles life as a new mum.
New mum Tyra Banks drew inspiration from Creed star Tessa Thompson's movie look for her new dreadlocked hairstyle.
The former supermodel-turned-TV mogul debuted her new locks as she returned to the spotlight on Sunday (20Mar16), at the Simply Stylist conference in Los Angeles. The appearance was her first since welcoming her son, York, via a surrogate, in January (16), and Tyra stunned with her long, thin dreads.
She has since revealed her new mane was the work of Dr. Kari Williams, the founder of Los Angeles' Mahogany Hair Revolution Salon and Trichology Clinic, who helped Tyra choose the faux low-maintenance locks to minimise the time she needs to spend on her hair when she wakes up and has to tend to her baby.
The stylist used her own Dr. Kari Williams Goddess Faux Locs, which are created using "human extension hair" and are "lighter in weight and non-damaging to hair," she revealed to PeopleStyle.
"Tyra selected the look after seeing my work on several popular celebrities," Williams explained. "Tyra and I played around with some colour blends and decided to create locks that matched her natural hair colour."
The trendy style setter opted to go for an ombre look, giving her tips a touch of blonde.
"The light colour at the ends of some of her locks are a result of us playing with colour, and it worked perfectly in the end because (the lighter shade) gives her locks an authentic sun-kissed look," Williams continued.
And although the application process took "all damn day", Tyra is thrilled with the finished product: "(It was) worth it - I can have it for three months," she smiled. "Low maintenance and I love it. Trussed up 'n' go. Maternity leave equals chill."
Tyra, who is dating photographer Erik Asla, will be looking for more ways to save time on her looks after recently telling E! News she was struggling with a lack of sleep.
"Some mornings you wake up, and you're like, 'Where am I? I don't know what's going on. And I know it's not a good idea for me to drive right now because I did not sleep,'" she laughed. "So I balance that and his dad helps, and we go back and forth, so that's good."
