Donatella Versace is honoured to call Lady Gaga a friend.

The fashion designer opened up about her relationship with the singer in an article she penned for Italian magazine Amica.

Donatella has recalled when she first met the 27-year-old star. She says it was after Gaga decided to wear vintage Versace dresses for her music video for The Edge of Glory.

“I’m very proud to say that Lady Gaga is a friend of mine,” Donatella gushed.

“She was determined, she already knew what she wanted: to go straight to the heart of the maison and show those clothes to a new generation, to all her fashion-lover fans.”

Donatella says Gaga’s decision to wear the label’s signature bondage-inspired dresses is something she’ll always remember. This iconic style was designed by her late brother Gianni Versace.

“I’m sure that, if Gianni were still alive, he would have been a huge fan of hers,” she continued. “I’m very happy she is part of the Versace ‘family’.”

Donatella also praised the pop star’s independent style and her professional attitude. She gushed that Gaga has a rare ability to establish a direct and powerful relationship with her fans.

Gaga took to the stage to personally thank Donatella for being her friend last year. The star dedicated her Milan performance of her Born This Way tour to the fashion house legend.

“[Thanks for the] style suggestions, for the clothes and for the friendship,” Gaga gushed.
