Zendaya: 'I stalk fans on Instagram'
The K.C. Undercover star has stayed true to the spirit of diversity with her latest Daya clothing collection.
Actress Zendaya stalks fans for fashion inspiration on Instagram.
The K.C. Undercover star released her first-ever clothing collection, Daya by Zendaya, last year (16), and in preparation for her brand's latest collection, the 20-year-old looked to "cool people" on social media for ideas.
“I was just stalking people before getting on the phone,” she tells People magazine. “I was looking up #DayabyZendaya and I liked everybody’s pictures and commented. It’s fun.”
Zendaya admits she often "falls into the rabbit hole" when researching fashion on the Internet and spends hours looking at outfits crafted by celebrities, fashion bloggers and regular people with a unique sense of style.
“Whether they’re a celebrity or just a random person that I find on Instagram or Tumblr, I’m inspired by people who are dressing and doing things for themselves - those are the ones that I look up to,” she shares. “For example, Erykah Badu. She has always done what she wants when it comes to fashion and I think it translates so well.”
Zendaya has pushed for diversity and inclusiveness since the very beginning of her fashion venture with the help of her longtime stylist Law Roach. The spirit of her second collection is no different, with a myriad of track suits, fancy dresses, denim and other looks, ranging from extra small to extra extra large and priced affordably from $18 to $54 per item.
“Everything I see for the brand is slowly starting to come true in the sense of how I wanted it to be very open," Zendaya explains. “I wanted everybody to feel like they could wear it. I want it to feel inclusive and gender neutral.”
“I was inspired by different colours that really spoke to me,” she adds of the unique flavour of her second collection. “There was this one copper colour that I was obsessed with because I felt it looked so beautiful on everybody’s skin tones.”
