Zooey Deschanel thinks pyjamas are "the best thing ever".

The New Girl actress is known for her cute vintage style, which even landed her a designing deal with Tommy Hilfiger. While it might be glitz and glamour when she's on the red carpet, the star, who is currently expecting her first child with her fiancé Jacob Pechenik, prefers to keep it casual at home.

"Pyjamas are the best thing ever!" she gushed to German magazine Joy.

However, she is more than happy to ditch the flannels for something fancier on occasion, adding: "It's like an addiction: I love fashion!"

The pretty brunette gathers inspiration from old films, which can be seen in her classic make-up and retro outfits. But it's not all about the clothes.

"I place a great deal of importance on small details and accessories," she revealed.

And she's a dab-hand with the sewing machine too, explaining that she used to make a lot of her clothes.

It means she's best placed to work with Tommy Hilfiger - and her down-to-earth attitude doesn't hurt either.

"There is an audience for more modest clothes," she previously told the US edition of InStyle. "I hate that fashion could be something that excludes people.

"I remember I was wearing a cute jacket, and I saw this well-known actress - who will remain nameless - with her stylist. They said, ‘Oh my god, that’s so cute. Where did you get it?’ I told them, and it was not a fancy brand, and they were like, ‘Oh.’ I just thought, ‘Do you not like it anymore because of the brand?’ That’s so dumb, and you have just made yourself into a cartoon villain.”
