A step back in time: Remembering the travelling fun fair
On New Year's Day 1963, Dickie Boswell's Funfair arrived in Larne, towed by his Ford 10 truck. And he spent the frosty day giving children rides at three old pence a time and helped them forget that Santa and Christmas were past tense.
Marian McCombe, who lived down the coast near Carnlough, remembers Dickie well. "He had a wife called Fran and three daughters who travelled with them. Their names were Harriet, Louise and Dora.
"He visited towns all over the province with his funfair."
Dickie is dead these past 10 years, and Marian is wondering if the daughters are still around.
