Blow me down ... recalling Irish Cup Final's little brother

By Eddie McIlwaine

I really did get folk dicing with the past when I reminisced about old board games way back before mobile phones were invented.

Reader Martin Anderson, of Castlewellan, says there was a game called Battleships, which he remembers consisted of rolling a dice and putting dots on squares which were called battleships.

I remember Battleships, the board game, too. All I can say is that it didn't compare with Ludo, or Snakes and Ladders.

Leslie Campbell, a retired mechanic, claims there used to be a Blow Football Belfast Championship, in which pubs in the city competed back in the 1940s, with the final played in McGlade's Bar, Donegall Street, on the same day as the Irish Cup Final.
