Deanes Eipic's Danni Barry named Ireland's Chef of the Year - what Northern Ireland restaurants picked up top awards?

A Northern Ireland woman has been crowned Ireland's Chef of the Year.

Danni Barry is head chef at Deanes Eipic restaurant in Belfast and is the only female chef in Ireland to have a Michelin star.

Hailing from Mayobridge in County Down, Danni said she was "incredibly humbled and delighted" at the All-Ireland Irish Restaurant Awards win.

Taking to Twitter she said: "Thanks for all the kind words and good wishes. Incredibly humbled and delighted. So grateful to my Deanes Eipic team who make it all happen."

The All-Ireland Irish Restaurant Awards took place in the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin on Monday night and named the top restaurants in Ireland for 2017.

Alain Kerloc'h of Ox restaurant Belfast picked up the accolade of all Ireland best restaurant manager.

While Ox Cave won the best wine experience.

The Muddler's Club Belfast picked up the All Ireland award for best casual dining.

The Walled City Brewery in Derry was named the best gastro pub.

Coleraine's Lost & Found was named best cafe.

Speaking at the awards, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins said: “This is the ninth and most successful year of the Irish Restaurant Awards to date. These Awards are the accolades of the Irish restaurant industry – everybody wants to win one.

"From over 70,000 online nominations cast earlier this year to 2,500 guests attending our regional events, it is clear that the stature, calibre and reputation of the awards is expanding at a considerable rate and it is all in aid of recognising the talent within our sector. All winners and finalists are very deserving of their awards."
