Hoxton Gin is made by trendy east-London brewer Gerry Calabrese who adds distillates of tarragon, iris, grapefruit and, unusually, coconut to give a fruity, tropically-flavoured drink.
One of the happy leftovers of the 18th Century British occupation of Minorca, the Xoriguer distillery continues to makes small-batch gin from distilled wine, rather than coarse grain distillate. Delicate and refined.
3. EDGERTON PINK DRY
Add a bit of colour to your Martini with Edgerton's pink gin. Despite its colour, it doesn't contain any bitters, instead getting its distinctive hue and flavour from a pomegranate infusion.
4. COWEN SLOE
Fragrant, herby and with a distinct currant flavour, Cowen's low-alcohol Sloe gin (26 per cent) makes a delicious aperitif or a sweet-tasting long drink if mixed with tonic.
5. LEOPOLD'S AMERICAN
Leopold's master distiller, Todd Leopold, handcrafts every batch of this subtle-tasting gin in small 40-gallon copper stills at his distillery in Denver, even hand numbering the bottles. Deliciously limey.
6. G'VINE NOUAISON
It's not only brandy that's made in the Cognac region of France, they also make a silky smooth gin teeming with flavours of cinnamon and lemon. A very sophisticated tipple.
7. WILLIAMS CHASE
Possibly the most complicated gin in the world. Each batch of Chase starts life as an apple vodka and is then distilled 100 times more to give a light, airy drink with a slight hint of apple sweetness.
8. SIPSMITH LONDON DRY
The first distillery to open in London for 100 years, Sipsmith use English Barley spirit, 10 herb botanicals and water from Lydwell spring to produce its zesty, citrus-rich dry gin.
9. HENDRICK'S GIN
As well as the traditional juniper infusion, Hendrick's uses a dash of Bulgarian Rose and a maceration of cucumber to give its drink a refreshing vegetable taste.
10. ANCHOR JUNÍPERO
Anchor of San Francisco's gin may have a kick like a mule, but that doesn't stop the herby flavour of this tipple jumping out at you.
