Who you work for Fetherston Clements Estate Agents
What brought you into the business?
As a child I had an interest in property — from architecture to internal aesthetics, however through the part-time jobs I did through my teens and early twenties I developed a passion for customer service — meeting people and tailoring services to meet their requirements. Estate agency covers both areas for me. After university I was luckily given an opportunity and I haven’t looked back.
Who has inspired you in the property world?
There are many inspirational characters within the industry.Without naming names it’s those who have opened their own agencies, started with nothing, grew over 20-years and maintained excellent reputations for the duration.
What do you have sitting on your desk?
Nothing strange or startling. Computer, phone, Blackberry, file pad, reports, thank-you cards and a photo of Faye and Patrick.
Between work, a young baby and a boxer dog I don’t have much free time but I do like my sport. Mainly rugby, football and golf. However, I’m awful at them so I’m mainly a spectator these days.
Do you do lunch?
It’s not easy to get lunch in this industry but I make up for it at dinner time.
What qualifications do you think are essential for estate agency?
Qualifications have their purpose, however, I don’t think they are essential for residential estate agency at all. Passion for and experience of the industry, along with sound knowledge of the regulations and legislation is absolutely essential criteria.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I wanted to be Batman.
If you could give it all up tomorrow, where in the world would you move to, and what would you do?
I definitely wouldn’t leave Fetherston Clements — the business is young but it’s going well and I’m very proud of what we’re doing here. That said, I’d be getting my private jet in from Biarritz every morning.
Any unfulfilled ambitions?
Yes — the Batman plan didn’t work out! I have many ambitions to fulfil — mainly to grow Fetherston Clements for the future.
What is the most common misconception people have about estate agents?
I think people commonly misconceive the hours we work. People are working longer hours these days.
