It's time to scrap the TV licence fee

Published 25/08/2015

It will be a very sad day for Northern Ireland if the very balanced and professional UTV goes out of existence. We will then be left with the BBC as our only source of TV news.

The licence-funded BBC already controls 70% of the news, and that is far too much. It is time to scrap the licence fee so that broadcasters like UTV, as well as our outstanding regional newspapers, get a level playing field in financial terms.
