Ciara and Chris Scannell from Belfast are celebrating the birth of their first child, Erin. The beautiful baby girl was 7lb 3oz when she was born at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on October 14 at 12.36am.

Ciara (31), an accountant, and Chris (35), a dentist and player for Cliftonville Football Club, decided not to find out in advance if they were having a son or a daughter.

“We were convinced it was going to be a boy,” Ciara said. “She was due on October 4 and I missed being induced by one day, so she was fashionably late.

“She's a real party animal: up from 10pm to 3am every night. We are tired, but very happy.”

Ciara said she was in a “state of shock” when Erin was handed to her and praised the staff at the Royal for their excellent care.

“The midwife, Orla, was brilliant,” Ciara said. “If we're doing this again, I want to track her down.

“She kept me so calm and the yoga classes I did during my pregnancy really helped.

“You think it's airy-fairy at the time, but in labour the breathing techniques really helped.”

Erin is the first grandchild for Ciara's parents.

They are over the moon with the new addition to the family, as are Chris's parents and everyone else.

“We're not sure whom she looks like, but everyone is saying it’s Chris,” Ciara added.
