The birth of baby Jack Carbin to Ciara and Stephen
The odds are that Eamonn McGarry will make it to the Big Apple in time to see Jack his first grandchild baptised at a church somewhere in Queens.
Eamonn, a long-time staffer with Ulster bookmakers McLean, is planning to retrace his steps to New York to take bonny babe Jack in his arms at the ceremony. He was across the Atlantic in June 2011 when his daughter Ciara (30), the new arrival's mum, wed Monaghan man Stephen Carbin (32) on a beach in Clearwater, Florida.
"And now I just have to get to Queens where Ciara, a nanny, and Stephen, a joiner, have settled in time for the Christening," said Eamonn, who is delighted at becoming a grandfather.
Ciara, whose mother Lynda Lindsay, died nine years ago, can't wait to see her father in his new role.
"He visits us as often as he can get away from Crumlin, where he lives and works," she added.
"And I know from the sound of him on the telephone that he is impatient to get acquainted with Jack."
Eamonn said: "I really do miss Ciara but I know she and Stephen are happy. It was a fairytale romance. Ciara went on holiday to New York and ended up finding Stephen, the love of her life. Then she found out he was from just down the road in Monaghan from the south Antrim village where she was born."
Friends and relations from Monaghan will be joining Ciara and Stephen for Jack's big day.
