Just Born: Lily May Saunders
Lily May Saunders arrived in the world at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, on March 20, 2012, weighing 6Ibs 8oz.
Her parents, Lee-Ann Burns and David Saunders, from the Cregagh estate in Belfast, have been together for 11 years and are over the Moon.
Mum Lee-Ann joked: “I waited this long to have a baby just to be sure about him (David). We are so happy.”
Labour lasted seven hours, ending with a natural birth, and Lee-Ann was beaming with pride.
“It wasn’t as bad as I thought — it wasn’t good, it wasn’t easy, but not as bad as I expected.
“I would definitely have more children — it hasn’t put me off.”
Lee-Ann and David decided not to find out the sex of the baby. And dad David joked: “We were set up for a boy.”
Lily is sleeping and feeding well, much to the relief of her parents.
David said: “She is a brilliant sleeper and a great feeder. She is always hungry — she takes after me.”
Lee-Ann works as a civil servant and David is starting a new job this week.
On choosing a name, the new parents said they always liked the name Lily.
Lee-Ann said: “I have an aunt called Lily, but I always liked the name.
“A new baby and a new job — it is a great week.
“The midwives at the Ulster Hospital have been brilliant.
“They are always very helpful and I was lucky enough to get my own room.”
