The birth of a baby girl to Lauren and Darren Bingham

Lauren and Darren Bingham from Belfast are celebrating the birth of their first child. Penny Rose Bingham was born four days past her due date on April 27 at 1.55pm. On her arrival at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald by water birth, the healthy baby girl weighed in at 7lbs 8oz.

Sales assistant Lauren (23) and Darren (24), an administrator, are enjoying the challenges of parenthood.

"It's going really well," Lauren said.

"She is a good baby. She is very content, so we are lucky."

Lauren recalled her feelings on Penny's arrival.

"I was so happy to see her," Lauren said.

"It was overwhelming.

"The labour was very quick. I had a water birth, so it was lovely."

Penny is the double of her father.

"She looks like her daddy," Lauren said. "She has his hair."

Lauren praised the staff at the Ulster Hospital for the high standard of care provided last month.

"They were amazing," Lauren added.

"Fabulous. They were great."

The Binghams have been inundated with visitors, presents and messages of congratulations.

"It hasn't stopped all week," Lauren explained.

"Everybody has been very generous. She's spoilt rotten.

"There is not a bit of space left in the house."
