Maria Robb and Dean Murray, from Ballykinler in Co Down, are celebrating the birth of their first child.

Paul Michael Murray – named after his grandfather Paul and uncle Michael – weighed 8lbs 11oz when he was born at 7.39am on April 5 at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald.

Maria (20) chose not to find out in advance if she was having a girl or a boy, because she wanted it to be a surprise.

The young mum explained that Dean (20) was by her side when Paul made his arrival into the world and they are both taking to parenthood very well.

"We just love him," she said. "He's beautiful and he's doing brilliantly."

Maria had a very positive birth experience at the Ulster Hospital and praised the high standard of care her young family has been provided.

"The staff were brilliant," she said. "They are very good. We want to thank everyone at the Ulster Hospital.

"All the care they are giving us is great."

Maria and Dean also want to say a big thanks to their friends and family for all their love and support.

"We've had lots of visitors every day since he was born," Maria said.

"Everyone has been great. We are really happy."
