Hazel and Darren Baxter from Maghaberry are enjoying family life after seeing in the New Year and their sixth anniversary as a couple in style by tying the knot.

Hazel (nee Young), a maternity support worker, and Darren, a delivery driver, fell in love after meeting on a night out with friends.

"We met on New Year's Eve six years ago," Hazel said.

"We are quite similar people and get on very well."

There was cause for a double celebration when the couple became engaged two years ago.

Hazel agreed to marry Darren just 24 hours before the birth of their son Jordan.

"We were at a restaurant in Lisburn when he proposed," Hazel said.

"He got down on one knee with an engagement ring.

"I gave birth to our son Jordan the next day."

Hazel and Darren were married on December 31, 2014 at the civic centre in Lisburn.

"The service was lovely," Hazel said.

"The girls at the centre are really nice and helpful.

"It was a very intimate setting, very personal."

A reception followed at the Wallace restaurant, also in Lisburn, which is the venue they first met in all those years ago.

Hazel and Darren's first dance as husband and wife was to Christina Perri song A Thousand Years.

"We had a really nice day," Hazel explained.

"We had close family and friends to the service and then everyone joined us for the party.

The newlyweds said they thoroughly enjoyed their wedding day and had a message for their loved ones.

"Thanks to all our friends and family and work colleagues for celebrating with us," Hazel said.

"We really enjoyed the day.

"It was great."

The new Mr and Mrs Baxter spent the night in Belfast's Merchant Hotel following their relaxing and fun-filled wedding.

They are enjoying being married to each other and have settled back into family life well.

"It is grand," Hazel said.

"We are back to work, back to normal.

"We are happy."
