Just Married: Joanne and Brian Ewing - City Hall tree helped bring Christmas magic to wedding

Joanne and Brian Ewing from Newtownabbey are enjoying married life following their perfect winter wedding in Belfast.

Medical secretary Joanne (44) and Brian (45), an X-ray porter, have known each other for many years but didn’t fall in love until 2013.

“We got on so well and we are quite similar,” Joanne said.

“We just realised we were right for each other.”

The couple became engaged on a night out in Carrickfergus.

“We were at Ownies,” Joanne said.

“He had a beautiful ring with him. He didn’t get down on one knee. I think he was really nervous!”

They then were married on December 11 at Belfast City Hall.

Joanne said the venue was perfect for their special day.

“It was lovely,” she added.

“The Christmas tree is beautiful. The staircase, red carpet and stained glass windows behind us looked so lovely in our wedding pictures. Our photographer did a great job.”

A small group of the newlyweds friends and family headed to the Ramada Encore in the Cathedral Quarter for a relaxed reception.

The couple’s first dance as husband and wife was to the popular Christina Perry song A Thousand Years.

“We had such a good time,” Joanne said. “Everyone said they enjoyed themselves. It was a small, intimate reception and really enjoyable.”

Joanne and Brian are grateful for the support they have received from their loved ones.

“Thank you to all our friends and family for helping make our wedding day so special,” Joanne said.

The new Mr and Mrs Ewing headed to the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, Co Down, following the wedding.

Now back home they are very much looking forward to their first Christmas together as husband and wife.

“Married life is good,” Joanne said. “There is no big change to day to day life. Being married has brought us even closer.”
