Laura and John Houston, from Lisburn, fell in love eight years ago and have been inseparable since. Laura (28), a podiatrist, and John (32), a service engineer, knew they were meant to be together when they met in the spring of 2005.

The recipe of their successful relationship is being different types of people, but sharing laughter every day.

"We met in The Belmont in Banbridge," Laura said. "He tortured me for a week to get my phone number until I finally gave in. We went to the cinema for our first date and have been inseparable ever since.

"John is so laid-back he's horizontal and I would be the complete opposite. He makes me laugh."

The couple got engaged on December 28, 2011. John had hidden a card in their Christmas tree telling Laura he was taking her away to the Farnham Estate in Co Cavan. "We were out for walk and went down to the lake when John dropped to one knee and did the whole romantic proposal thing," Laura added.

"He had Champagne on ice and spa treatments waiting for me. He made a whole day of it. It was lovely."

Laura and John were married on May 4 at Ballinderry Parish Church, with a reception for 132 guests following at the Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen.

"We had a fantastic day," Laura said. "It was all over in a blink of an eye. We want to thank everyone for sharing our day."

The Houstons spent a week at Lough Erne Resort and are now back to the home they share and enjoying married life.
