Reuben and William Larmour-Skillen are celebrating life together following their civil partnership in Belfast on September 11.

Hairdresser Reuben (27), a fashion-mad Kylie Minogue fan and account manager William (34), a Doctor Who sci-fi fan, first met in April 2011.

Their first date was a Sunday stroll around Belfast, followed by pizza.

"We're so opposite," Reuben said. "We clash, but love to hear about each other's interests."

They fell in love and Reuben proposed on Valentine's Day 2012, over a romantic dinner.

"I had the house decorated red and pink and put a ring in a cracker with a note saying 'Will you marry me?'" Reuben explained.

"He didn't have his glasses on, so he had to find them, but he said 'yes'.

"I found out he was going to ask me on our anniversary."

The couple made a civil partnership commitment at Belfast City Hall in front of 70 guests, before a reception – complete with Dr Who cake – for a further 90 guests at the Titanic Bar and Kitchen.

"September 11 is my grandparents' wedding anniversary. I'm very close to my granny, so I picked that date," Reuben said.

"We had such a laid-back and relaxed day. "

Mr and Mr Larmour-Skillen enjoyed a medley for their first dance, including Celine Dion's Because You Loved Me, Queen's I Want To Break Free, Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Show, Tragedy by Steps and Gangnam Style.

The Larmour-Skillen household, including dogs Rufus and Riley, is a very happy place.

"We are in great form," Reuben said. "We want to thank all our family and friends for making our day."
