A chance meeting in 2007 led to love, marriage and a beautiful little daughter for Ruth-Ellen Logan and David Rutherford.

David (33), a double-glazing business owner from Belfast, first saw Randalstown native Ruth-Ellen (31), who runs The Beauty Company in Belfast, at The |Potthouse Bar & Grill back in December 2007.

“There was an instant attraction,” Ruth-Ellen said. “David came over to talk to me.

“I was getting refurbishments done to the salon at the time, so we didn't have our first date until Christmas Eve.”

The couple dated and became engaged in October 2009 at Shaw's Bridge.

They had been walking their dog, Susan, when David got down on one knee and asked Ruth-Ellen to be his wife.

“I turned around and thought that he had fallen over,” Ruth-Ellen laughed.

“But he was proposing with a fabulous engagement ring.”

Ruth-Ellen explained that she organised the wedding and that David “just showed up”.

They married at St Anne's Cathedral on April 5, in front of 100 guests, before heading to their reception at Shu on the Lisburn Road, south Belfast.

“St Anne's is exquisite and the service was beautiful,” Ruth-Ellen said of her spring wedding.

“There was a very relaxed atmosphere and a fun approach to our day.

“We had our daughter, Aiyana, baptised at the same time.

“I wore an ivory gown, and the whole day was reasonably traditional, but with a modern twist.”

David and Ruth Ellen's reception at Shu was a colourful affair.

They had a DJ, a musician playing bongos and a magician to entertain guests.

Their first dance as husband and wife was to Green Day's Time Of Your Life.

After their big day, David, Ruth-Ellen and their gorgeous little daughter headed to Lanzarote for a family friendly holiday.

“Married life is lovely, but no different to how we were before,” Ruth-Ellen said.

“We w ant to thank everyone who supported us on our wedding day. Both of our parents, Slim Jim at El Divino and all the guys at Shu were all a real help.”
