Just married: Tori and Jonny Shaw
After dancing the Twist at a friend's wedding six years ago, a Co Down couple have finally got hitched.
Tori Saunders (27), from Castlereagh, and Jonny Shaw (29), from Moneyreagh, were married at Cregagh Presbyterian Church in Belfast on July 2.
The couple haven't looked back since meeting on the dance floor of another loved-up pair’s nuptials.
“We met at a friend's wedding on New Year's Eve — my friend had introduced me and we all got involved in a dancing game at the reception,” said Tori.
“I ended up with Jonny and we danced the Twist together — he is not a dancer.”
Tori, who works as a freelance make-up artist for the BBC among others, said her new husband went the traditional route — asking his wife-to-be’s father Tom for her hand in marriage.
Jonny, who works as a builder for the family business, took his then-girlfriend to the romantic backdrop of Rome to propose to her — although left it up to Tori to choose the ring.
“It was a long time planning it — we were engaged in February two years ago,” added Tori.
“There were over 100 people altogether for the meal, with more that evening. I was given away by my father and everything went really well.
“The weather was beautiful and the day was just superb.”
Tori toasted her first few moments of marriage with a glass of Prosecco with the girls, along with more than 200 guests at the Old Inn, Crawfordsburn, Co Down.
The pair's first dance was to Come Away With Me by Norah Jones.
The happy couple celebrated their wedding with an extravagant honeymoon to the Maldives.
“We went there and then on to Dubai for three nights. It was amazing,” said Tori.
“We had a villa right on the beach and it was very relaxing — I don't think we spoke to one another for the whole of the first day because we were so exhausted!”
Tori said that although the couple have only been married for a month, they are already planning a family.
“I'm feeling good. We lived together beforehand, so nothing has really changed.
“It's just nice to be married.”
