Pam's people: Celebration of truly inspirational women
I have been privileged in the past to be a judge of the Belfast Telegraph Women of the Year Awards, in association with The Outlet Banbridge, so I know what an extremely difficult job it is.
Therefore I did not envy the judges their task this year as they had to read through so many worthy submissions and pick finalists and winners.
Their deliberations were revealed at the star-studded ceremony in the Ramada Plaza Hotel under the watchful eye of hostess Wendy Austin. What I love about the evening is the number of celebrities who lend their support and who are in awe of the ladies who have done so much for their local communities, or for their friends and families.
Sales in waterproof mascara also go up and the tissues are never too far away as the finalists' stories are told. None more so than when Joyce Craig was named Mum of the Year and the overall Woman of the Year is Maud Kells, who survived being shot while working as a missionary nurse in the Congo.
All the ladies nominated are truly inspirational.
