Good to be in Arms' way

The ideal spot to lounge around away from the madding crowd

Where?

Adair Arms Hotel, Ballymoney Road, Ballymena.

What's the vibe?

Situated in the centre of Ballymena, beside the court house - but far enough away from the bustling pub hub (ie William Street) that is the preserve of the young 'uns - the Adair Arms makes for a pleasant pit stop.

Decor-wise, it's a bit like your granny's lounge - carpeted, comfortable, clean and inviting.

The staff are friendly and if the hunger gets to you there's a posh/plain option in the form of the Adair Restaurant and the Lanyon Grill respectively.

What's on offer?

A quiet drink and if you're lucky you may hear a few tunes from the grand piano.

Who can you expect to bump into?

Out-of-towners wanting to make a night of it in the Mena, wedding-do refugees and locals looking for some respite.

What are they wearing?

Don't spend too long trying on outfits ... It's an all-encompassing kind of place, like Debenhams.

Overheard?

Did the Beatles not stay here back in the 1960s?

What to say?

How far away is that big shopping centre in Ballymena, hey?

What definitely not to say?

I dair you to make fun of my accent.
