Can I control menopausal demons?

Fiona Caine is here to help if you have a relationship, sexual, marriage or family problem

I’m becoming a really awful colleague, wife and mother — I’m scratchy and irritable all the time. I shout at the kids and find myself snapping at colleagues and my poor husband.

I realise this behaviour is irrational and that it’s probably linked to the change (I’m 48) but what can I do?

I’ll alienate myself completely if I don’t do something about it. It’s not worth bothering the doctor, though, as I don’t have any other problems with the change. VS

FIONA SAYS: VISIT YOUR GP

Your doctor really is the best person to help you through this if your behaviour is out of character and out of your control.

You also need to talk to your husband; tell him you think this is the start of the menopause and that you are going to talk to your GP.

You can get advice from the website Menopause Matters (menopausematters.co.uk).

You will get through this and it will get better.
