I don’t trust daughter’s boyfriend

Fiona Caine is here to help if you have a relationship, sexual, marriage or family problem

My 17-year-old daughter has started seeing a lad of 19 who is causing me some concern.

I know he got into difficulties with the police a while back but he was never charged, but there is something about him that seems to me to spell trouble.

My daughter wants to go to university next September, but she has fallen for this lad big time and I am worried he is trying to talk her out of it.

I’m wondering if I should step in. What do you think? YL

FIONA SAYS: TALK TO HER ABOUT THE FUTURE

A better approach might be to have a chat with her about her future and suggest that, with her whole life ahead of her, she shouldn’t be thinking of limiting her options quite so soon.

Remember, this man may have been in trouble once but he could have changed.

You can’t stop her going through painful experiences but you can be there as a shoulder to cry on.
