My boyfriend won’t use contraception

Fiona Caine is here to help if you have a relationship, sexual, marriage or family problem

My boyfriend and I have been going out for about five months.

Because of his strict religious beliefs he doesn’t want to use a contraceptive. I am worried about becoming pregnant and if I did, I know that, for the same reason, abortion would be out of the question — but I’m not confident he’d stay with me either.

I am worried about becoming a single mum but I don’t know what to do. NS

FIONA SAYS: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF

If you don't want to get pregnant then dump him. He's prepared to run the risk of you having his child without being willing to accept the responsibility for it. There really is no such thing as a ‘safe period', and sex with someone who takes such little responsibility for his actions carries health risks.

I think you'd be better without him, but that has to be your choice. It also may be worthwhile being tested for any sexually transmitted conditions.
