My son is viewing porn sites

Fiona Caine is here to help if you have a relationship, sexual, marriage or family problem

My son is 14 years old and I bought him a computer with which he’s been exploring the web.

He’s used it for school work, games and so forth, but last week, when I went up to his room, I saw he’d left it open on a porn site.

I don’t think of myself as prudish, but this was pretty hardcore for a teenager.

Should I take the computer away? FB

FIONA SAYS: HAVE THE TALK

Like any boy of his age, your son probably has a healthy, curious interest in sex, so please don't be too harsh on him. Tell him that you saw what he'd done and try to use this as an opportunity to talk about sex and pornography.

Explain the difference and see if you can get him to understand how damaging it can be, particularly to someone of his age.

You could tell him you'd rather not have that sort of material coming into the house, but it's possible that he left the site open deliberately. He may want to talk about sex but doesn't know how to broach the subject.
