Mobile phones take a chunk out of the digital camera market

Sales of digital cameras have dropped by 25% in just five years as people increasingly rely upon their mobile phones to capture precious moments.

The growing sophistication of mobile phone devices have also affected sales of camcorders which have plummeted by 21%.

It was also revealed that 50% of people no longer use cameras while 10% would turn to their trusty mobile if their camera broke.

While the findings, published by Mintel, state that mobile phone camera technology is inferior to the camera, continuous improvements made by manufacturers could see camera and camcorder sales fall further in coming years.
