A new website has been set up to help local people and visitors avail of Londonderry’s newly expanded free wireless network.
The Wireless City website was unveiled by Mayor Kevin Campbell yesterday, with much of the city centre now wireless enabled.
Businesses are also being given the opportunity to profile their own WiFi service on the website.
Louise Breslin, project officer with Derry City Council’s economic development department, said the website was an invaluable resource.
Available through the www.wirelessderry.com site, the new Wireless City online map was devised as a result of the Code4Derry programme which ran throughout the summer in conjunction with technology company Kainos, who recently opened offices in the city.
Mayor Campbell said: “This project clearly outlines how our local graduates can work with the support of the private sector and local government to develop a product that provides a mutually beneficial service for the city.”
The website comes as technology and business leaders hailed Derry’s status as the first city in the British isles to be totally connected to superfast broadband.
Experts now predict that this should prove a massive advantage going into the UK City of Culture year in 2013.
