Egypt is being introduced as a winter sun destination direct from Northern Ireland for the first time, despite the economic downturn.
Flights to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh will be operated from December to April from Belfast International Airport, it was announced today.
The area, renowned as a mecca for water sports including diving and snorkelling, is being offered by Thomas Cook Airlines.
Pete Constanti, chief executive of Mainstream Travel at Thomas Cook, said: "We are very pleased to introduce Sharm el Sheikh to our Belfast programme.
"It is important to us to be able to give customers flexibility regarding holiday destinations, so they can have the holiday they desire."
Other winter routes already established direct from Belfast include the Canary Islands, Spain, Turkey , Cyprus and Tunisia.
