Why I'll be wearing my big red muffler for LVG today, Eamonn
You never hear of anyone wearing a muffler these days. It's another word for a scarf, I'm informed by Joe Williamson of Maghera who knows about these things because of his great age. "Everybody used to wrap up well in the winter in their mufflers," he says. "Nowadays, mufflers are out of fashion."
The wearing of a scarf (or a muffler) is a habit that has almost died out except at football matches.
I'll be wearing a red one this afternoon in front of the telly when I hope Man United (and their under-fire manager Louis van Gaal) win the FA Cup at Wembley at the expense of Crystal Palace.
I'm sure Eamonn Holmes and Paul Scholes, both outspoken critics of Louis, will be watching, too.
