Leona Lewis signs rags to riches book deal

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis has signed a book deal to tell her story for the first time – from a pizza waitress to an X Factor winner and global star.

Hodder & Stoughton said it will publish the “amazing” autobiography, to be accompanied by more than 100 behind-the-scenes photographs.

Hodder acquired world rights, for an undisclosed figure, and the book will be published in October.

The photographs will be taken by Dean Freeman, whose last book with Hodder was the worldwide best-seller My World by David Beckham.

“The last two years have been an unbelievable experience for me,” Lewis said.

“So to have it documented in pictures and to be able to tell people in my own words how it feels means a lot to me. I know the book will be full of special moments and I’m already having a brilliant time putting it together.”

From humble Hackney beginnings, the X Factor winner’s debut album Spirit sold more than five million copies.

Her single Bleeding Love was iTunes’ biggest track of 2008 with more than four million downloads, and her latest single Run ended her year with yet another number one hit.

She has had number one singles and albums in more than 20 countries, including big success in the US market. She was the first British female vocalist to top the US singles chart in more than 21 years, and the first British female artist in history to score both a US number one album and single in the same week.

Spirit was also the first time that a debut album by a British artist entered at number one on America’s Billboard top 200 chart.

Lewis’s editor, Fenella Bates, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with a global superstar like Leona.”
