Little Christmas Robin arrived a week early for best-selling author Cecelia Ahern who gave birth to a baby girl yesterday.
The novelist and the newly arrived Robin, who weighed 6lb, were both said to be doing well at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.
In a statement issued on the couple's behalf, Cecelia and her partner David Keoghan said they were “delighted to announce the arrival of a baby girl, Robin”.
Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, who spoke to his younger daughter shortly after the birth, said he was “delighted” to hear of the arrival of his third grandchild.
Robin is Mr Ahern's first granddaughter and a first-cousin to Jay and Rocco, the twin sons of Georgina and Westlife's Nicky Byrne. The twins will be three next April. Nicky said last night: “Myself, Georgina, Rocco and Jay are absolutely delighted for Cecelia and David's amazing news. What a wonderful Christmas gift and we all look forward to meeting their new arrival in the next few days.”
Fans of the multi-millionaire author may now have to wait a year for a new book as Cecelia said she planned to devote herself to motherhood.
Speaking before the birth, she said: “I've honestly never felt so happy or wanted anything more.”
She also said she saw the baby as “the greatest gift I've ever been given. It's the most important thing that's ever happened to me. I've never been so excited in my life ... and I've had a lot of exciting things happen to me.”
